This project brings together two artists in a long-distance correspondence unfolding through four video letters, exchanged between Havana and Hong Kong between September and December 2022.
Facilitated by Mudmap, the project explores the video letter as a reflective, time-based format that allows for slowness, distance, and intimacy across cities and lived contexts.
The exchange begins with Eloy Infante, returning to Havana after time abroad. His first letter moves through the city with a sense of familiarity and estrangement, weaving together personal memory, observation, and return. This initial gesture opens a dialogue that will be continued by Lucy Aukafolau, responding from Hong Kong, where she reflects on movement, transition, and everyday life during a moment of change.
This exchange reflects Mudmap’s broader interest in creating frameworks that support explorative formats of artistic correspondence and exchange. Mudmap regularly develops projects, publications, and workshops centered on video letters and other reflective audiovisual practices.
